rare first edition in dust jacket

STEINBECK, John. Of Mice and Men: A Play in 3 Acts. New York: Covici Friede, 1937. Octavo, original oatmeal cloth, original dust jacket. $1650.

Rare first edition, first printing of Steinbeck's dramatic adaptation of Of Mice and Men (published in prose form the same year). Steinbeck's first attempt at playwriting, Of Mice and Men opened on November 23, 1937 at the Music Box Theatre in New York under the direction of the esteemed George S. Kaufman. Running for 207 performances, Of Mice and Men won Steinbeck the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best play of the 1937-1938 season. Book about fine; dust jacket very good with light sun-toning to spine and very slight wear to top of front panel. A very nice copy of a Steinbeck rarity, difficult to find in collectible condition.
