Willa. April Twilights. Boston: Richard G. Badger/ The Gorham Press,
1903. Octavo, original drab boards, paper label on cover and spine.

First
edition of Willa Cather's first book and her only collection of verse.
Printed by a small vanity press and largely paid for by Cather herself
while she was working as a high school English teacher, April
Twilights achieved only modest sales and in 1908 Cather reportedly
purchased the remaining copies and destroyed them. Bookplate of W.
MacDonald MacKay, noted Scottish historian and book collector. News
clipping pasted next to endpapers; head of spine very slightly chipped.
A bright, clean copy; rare in this condition.
